#09 Shlongform

Shlongform is the wonderful, but all too well hidden world between SHort form and Long form improv. It’s a great place to re-connect with what brought you into improv in the first place: FUN!

In this you actually get to follow the fun instead of having to worry about fitting your scenes into a format. And you get to apply everything you know about improv in a new and exciting way, in fact everyone does! It really is the best of both worlds!

Optional: an introduction to the UNBREAKABLE format, where you get to try out your new found love of improv.

Duration: 5 hours
Level: Intermediate, Experienced. Experience with short form and long form improv is recommended. If in doubt, please ask :)

#11 The Harold - an Introduction

The Harold is the signature format of Chicago’s iO Theater, both a structure and learning tool for long form(at) improv.

The structure of an opening, three beats and group games can be group magic, but be careful: don't let the format get in the way of having fun!

The Harold - an Introduction will take you through the format structure and how to create a full show based on one single suggestion from the audience.

Duration: 5 hours minimum.

#13 Can We Have A Suggestion?

A lot of games and shows begins with a suggestion from the audience, but how do we ask for a suggestion in a productive way? And how do we play a 90 min set from one simple idea?

CWHAS will give you a fun experience with, and provide tools for:

  • different ways of asking the audience for suggestions.

  • how to draw inspiration from it.

  • how to honor the suggestion and build a whole show from it.

Duration: 3 hours

Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Experienced

#14 Introduction to Long Form Improvisation

Longform improv, also known as organic improv, is less about rules and more about exploration and discovery. Where shortform provides a director and game rules, longform removes the director completely and let the group mind figure out what the journey is and where it's going.

There is only one mind, and that is the one of the group.

If your improv experience so far is shortform, let this workshop show you what's behind door number two! (Hint: It's a whole new world!)

Duration: 6 hours

Level: Everyone, Beginner, Intermediate, Experienced
